Crestwicke Water Disruption
June 03, 2025
UPDATE 6/10/1015 9:00am: BOIL ORDER LIFTED
All four samples that were delivered to the lab yesterday came back negative. After conferring with the IEPA the boil order can be lifted for all areas. You may resume normal use of your water.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked through all of our safety protocols.
UPDATE 6/9/2025 1:30pm: BOIL ORDER still in place.
The service disruption from last week impacted all customers in our Crestwicke service area, resulting in a drop in pressure below 20 psi. This is the regulatory level at which we are required to issue a boil order. After discussing the number of impacted customers with the IEPA, we were instructed to take five samples from across the impacted area for testing. This testing looks for total coliform and also more specifically E. Coli, which is a particular type of coliform. This test must be completed by a certified lab, the closest of which is located an hour away and takes a minimum of 24 hours to complete.
On Thursday we were notified in the late afternoon by the lab that one of the five samples came back as positive for total coliform but negative for E. Coli, which meant we were unable to lift the boil order. Due to the size of the impacted area the District tried to confirm what protocol should be followed after receiveing the positive result from only one of the five samples. Unfortunately the employee at the IEPA who had been our contact was out of office until after the weekend and no other voicemails were returned before the IEPA's office closed.
Standard procedure after a positive result is to take two more samples 24 hours apart from the same location as the failed sample. The district moved forward with taking a sample Friday morning from that area and delivering it to the lab. The lab has set receiving hours and is not open on the weekends to receive samples, but we were notified Saturday morning that the Friday sample also did not pass.
We have continued to flush and have taken two more samples, one from Sunday and one from today from the original sample location, a hydrant, as well as two samples from customer's home's who live nearby. These samples have been delivered to the lab but results will not be known until late tomorrow at the earliest.
We have confirmed with the IEPA that this is the right procedure. Unfortunately we can not lift the boil order until these samples pass.
We understand the inconveniece and the frustration from being under a boil order for so long. We are doing our best to follow all regulatory procedures and ultimately protect the health and safety of our customers. Unfortunately a lot of these procedures have long timelines involved.
Until the lab can confirm these samples are safe the BOIL ORDER will remain in effect. All water used for drinking or cooking should be boiled for 5 minutes before use.
An alert from our website will be pushed out when the boil order can be lifted. This news article will be updated as more or changing information becomes available. For any further questions the District's office phone number is 309-827-2893, option1 for customer service. We will return calls as we are able.
UPDATE 6/7/2025 1:30pm: BOIL ORDER still in place. We are still working with the IEPA on a minor problem and the necessary steps to lift the boil order. The weekend and the availability of a certified lab have prevented progress. For everyones safety, the boil order will stay in place until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience.
UPDATE 6/5/2025 4:32pm: BOIL ORDER still in place. The service interruption from yesterday, 6/4/2025, impacted all of our Crestwicke service area. Because of the size of the impacted area, the Illinois EPA required us to take five samples from around the service area to the lab to be tested.
One sample from near the Crestwicke South Subdivision did not pass. The lab stated that there was not an E. Coli hit, but it was not going to pass based on residual turbidity, or cloudiness, in the sample.
For everyones safety, the boil order will stay in place until further notice. We will be resampling as directed by the Illnois EPA. We apologize for the inconvenience.

UPDATE 6/5/2025 7:00am: The City of Bloomington completed their work yesterday a little before noon. Flushing and sampling by the District were conducted in the early afternoon and samples were transported to a certified lab.
Until the lab can confirm these samples are safe the BOIL ORDER will remain in effect. All water used for drinking or cooking should be boiled for 5 minutes before use.
An alert from our website will be pushed out when the boil order can be lifted. Thank you for you patience and understanding.
Our Crestwicke water distribution area is fed from the City of Bloomington by a single water main. We were notified by the City today (6/3/2025) that they need to shut their supply to us down to perform maintenance on a broken valve. This will interrupt water service for all of our Crestwicke area customers. A map of that service area can be found here.
The outage will begin at 9am tomorrow (6/4/2025) and is estimated to be for about an hour. When water service resumes all customers in our Crestwicke area including Hunter's Knoll, Gabriel Hills, and Windgate subdivisions will be under a BOIL ORDER until further notice. Water used for cooking or drinking should be boiled for 5 minutes before use. This is for your safety and is required by the IEPA when pressure falls below 20 psi.
After water service resumes we will need to take samples from throughout the area and transport them to a certified lab to confirm the water is safe before lifting the boil order.
Boil order signs will be distributed to the impacted area. This is to try and reach those who have not subscribed to these website alerts. Unfortunately the phone number on these signs is incorrect. They were not updated when the District changed its phone system. We apologize for any confusion this may cause. We are working to get them updated.
